The hongi is the traditional way Maori (indigenous New Zealanders) meet each other - Hands grasped and a soft press of the tip of the nose.

Shot for a commission, this was quite heavily processed, mostly with levels, sharpening and dodge and burn.

Truly interesting just as it is.

The jawline shadows look unnatural, like you were overusing a vignette effect. Otherwise, I would have scored this higher. 7

Australia sucks New Zealand nil. Sorry couldn't resist that. The shot to me is ok but they could do with a bit more lighting on their faces it is a little too dark.

love the low key approach taken - i love affectionate cultures

fantastic moment, great lighting and b&w conversion. i find the chain on the L distracting as it goes against all the natural lines in the picture. i think you could crop this one just below their noses for a dramatic effect

I think this lacks the punch it could have if the contrast were more severe. It really is just mid and shadow tones, yet doesn't have that true low key approach. I love the lines on their faces. The symmetry and balance are good too. I like the hint of bokeh in the background being lighter because it showcases their profiles.

Nice capture of a old NZ tradition. I don't think the dark venting around the edges does the photograph justice. Still a good shot.
