 I shot several pics for the username challenge - glad2badad and man_named_horse - but one had a poor comp, one had to be saved at way too low quality and one had my face very visible in it. All doomed to score low. My selective desat score is sitting just at 6.0 and our team could use a boost in score to try and beat yanko's Outcasts. So I shoot for the shapes challenge.

This is almost entirely inspired by an image of Techo. This is more similar to his shot than to my previous paper patterns shot from the Stationery challenge. I used Techo's light setup - a clamp lamp in a box with a sheet of yellow tissue paper under a large sheet of glass. I tried various heights of paper curls. 1/4 sheets the short way worked best. All curled the same way using a long wooden skewer and then arranged on the glass. Shot handheld with my Sigma 18-125.

I might get some complaints that this is to similar to Techos entry. So be it. I need a good score and this might get me one. In the process I learned how to go about backlighting something, which is a technique I have never tried before. In all it was a learnign experience.

Processing - RAW conversion, levels, several selective color layers, hue/sat adjustment, brightness/contrast, NI, USM, resize, USM border.

Really like your wider angle look. It's all about the shapes and fun setting it up. Though I can imagine it isn't as easy as it looks to get it just as you want it. wtg!

Rofl. I almost did this too! I have "paper swirls" written down on my list of possible shape shots. :P you scored way better than I did with what I used. good job. Congrats!

Great shot. Im not sure what this is taken of but it is definately shapes. I really like the pink color and the lighting is nice. Good image.
