I must say that I really detest selective desaturation so I set out to take a shot that could possibly see the selective desaturation as serving a purpouse to draw attention to an area in the frame even more than if it were in color. I thought the easiest way was to just take a shot of a person and have the rest in b/w. Some of you might think I just took any shot that week and made it fit this challenge, I did however set out to shoot this specifically for it, first time I took a photo for DPC since April 1st. I had to pick from a shot where she was looking towards the sunset or one with the guys who are staring at her in the backround and they won out.
I have been doing some photos of people wearing the "wrong" attire for their situtation and remember seeing the naked cowboy the last time I was in NY, thought maybe doing the icelandic version would be fun and Lilja was up for it.
Keep in mind this is shot in May so it´s still pretty cold here in Iceland, we got good weather though so the temperature was about 14 degrees celcius but still was kindof windy so she was a real trooper as we went to three locations to shoot this. It is taken late on the friday night so we were real popular with guys who had started to party early, there were at least 10-15 people beind me when I shot this.
Lighting is ambient + a reflector Henny held on the left side of lilja, just outside the frame. Henny took care of the makeup as usual.
Post processing the usual, raw conversion, curves for contrast, a little burning of the church tower and of course b/w treatment on 95% of the photo.
Kindof expected the score but did not expect that only one of you recognized the "tribute" to the naked cowboy in Times Square, I thought that he was kindof, well not "big" but at least pretty well known over there, apparently not. |

DPCish but it has a good sense of humor and I just love those architectural forms towering over her. 7 |

I like this a lot but I bet that 99% of the males here wish you had shown the cowgirl closer up and to hell with the background ;-) |

Shameless exploitation just to get my attention. It worked. Nice composition. |

Great angle and idea. I think you got some people attention over there to the left of her. I do like the composition and idea though. Nice job. |
