Greetings from the Critique Club
I really like this photo. The colors and contrast really grab my attention, the blurred fence makes a nice frame for the player, and the abundance of diagonal lines makes for a very dynamic composition. Somehow I really don't care that it's crooked! Maybe because it's slanted enough that it seems intentional. And it's a unique, interesting perpective (Melethia isn't the only one that got it!).
OK, So it's a snapshot. I like it, and it isn't even my kid. (And I don't even like baseball!) It may not be a ribbon contender, but I'm glad you entered it. (And even more glad I drew it from the pool, since I didn't vote on this challenge and would have otherwise missed it!)
It's hard to be critical of a photo I like so well. I guess there are some distracting elements, like the corner of the roof on the right, but you can't control those in candid shots. And I wish it was just a bit sharper, although that's more a personal preference. Imperfections and all, there's nothing I'd really suggest changing here.
I hope he got a hit!

I just wanna say, thanks for the helpful comments....as for the fence and the rear-facing view...they are additional SUBJECTS of the picture..supposed to depict a mothers view of her child playing, and the fence is part of it, as the mother is behind the fence. But, thanks for the nice comments anyway.
~~and thank you Melethia, for getting it!

Frustrating having the chain link there. It's very distracting. If you have a long enough lens, go around the other side and get a good head on shot and avoid the chain link. |

fence is too distractig to me - also wold help to have facial expression on a tight shot |

Good idea! Maybe a more active angle could have been found though. |

I like this approach! Without even having seen the title, I liked the fact it was the spectator's view. |

Mom...
...why do I want to care for your sons backside? the very least you could of done was to have him turn and let me see his big beautiful smile.
The fence line is distracting as well. The colors are ok, the light is flat, texture is ok, comp sucks, dof good...
...come on mom, this is your son. Ya want to show him off don't ya, well, do so next time.
Don't give up, just do better. |

I don't care for the fence lines...kinda ruins the moment, IMHO |

The fence is extremely distracting and does not show players face. |

Despite being a nice photograph, this entry does not fall within the parameters of this weeks challenge. That being said, I must judge this photograph accordingly. :-( |
