 Had fun shooting this one! My wife & I knew the concept of what we wanted, and went shopping (PetSmart & a hobby shop) for supplies.

We were quick to get the setup right, and then it was simply a matter of coaxing the fish into the right area of the bowl (my wife fed it with the other hand, and moved around to gets it's attention).

Setup - "half" of a bishbowl (yes, you can buy them with one flat side) mounted on pegboard that i covered with the blue background (thick construction-paper). It's sitting in my light tent (which you can unfortunately see in the reflection of the bowl). Lit with 3 constants & 1 remote flash.

It's funny - you just never can tell what will strike a chord with the voters. 850 views... wow.

As for the weird lighting at the top of the bowl (which several people commented on) - It's simply the reflected light from the top of the bowl - no processing at all there. :O)

Wish I'd had more time for post - it was a VERY rushed job, and I really wasn't pleased with it (until the votes started coming in)! Given more time, I'd have blurred the reflections on the top half of the bowl.

I had LOTS of choices from this shoot - glad I chose this one!!!

Special props to kteach - certainly never had a comment in the form of a poem before (...and a GOOD one at that!) ;o)

Excllent set up and a well deserved ribbon...thanks for sharing how you did this. It was one I gave 10 to and expected to ribbon. I just love the lighting and that deep blue background. The fish is awesome as well

A slightly higher crop on bottom would have given the image a much higher impact. Outside of this the presentation is superb and the colors are splendid. 7

Nice setup! Good color and great choice of background for the orange fish; I like the lighting for the most part (particularly on the lower left of the bowl) but find myself trying to figure out what the reflections are. Very nice job overall.

The bright areas around the bowl make me wonder if there was alot of patch-tool usage. The picture is very bright and clear as well. The upper left corner in the background is a little noisy or something, but not horridly.
Overall this is a great image, and I wish you good luck.

Love the composition, it draws the eye to the center of the frame where everything happens. The blue background is great, but... if you'd controlled the reflections on the bowl a little better this would be my choice for one of the ribbons.

The fish is unhappy, his fishbowl's askew,
But will the thing fall, or is it held up with glue?
The white glove's a sure sign of the Cat in the Hat,
But if that hand tips, the poor fish will go SPLAT!

Nicely composed... has enough of the cartoon feel to it, yet still photographic. Clearly a Seuss shot too!
