This picture was just a point and shoot, to get a picture of the priest at my sisters confirmation... It turned out to be a great shot. Sadly the woman behind the priest was wearing a grennish shirt, which is why I could not saturate the green as much as I wanted as it was basic editing.

Editing steps in Photoshop, Crop, hue/saturate blues and magentas(rest desaturated completely or a lot), unsharp mask, brightness/contrast, noise reduced, frame, save for web.

The Title of the picture is the symbols of the iris(the flower) which amoung faith, hope and wisdom is also courage and admiration but I did not think the last two suited this shot.

Composition could be a bit stronger. Moving to the left a bit would effectively remove the woman behind the priest. Moving to the right would also work and create an interesting profile shot.

A larger aperture, even with this setup, would help isolate the priest from the background as well.

The selective desat is okay but as mentioned in previous comments not quite as effective as a full color version would be. The purple in his collar is particularly distracting. I imagine his robes were quite colorful and bright. The desat makes them look somewhat dreary.

The challenge: Great idea and the title ties it all together quite well.

Nice picture. I'll be interested to see how you got the true iris color on a black and white back ground with basic editing.

For me the main focal point is the face, i find the flowers pretty enough but kinda distracting from the guy.

hmmmmm that's a tough choice? LOL clear crisp focus, I think it would have worked better in complete color with a tighter crop to showcase your prime subject

I find the colors and the pattern a little difficult on the eyes, but good dof, good crop and interesting

I hope you have faith in my wisdom and realize when you removed the green
you also killed your flowers(big time).

selective desat doesn't work well here ... the purple on his collar is quite distracting
