About Fractal Dimensions

I was originally going to illustrate the Spiral of Archimedes => square the circle => calculate pi.

5/9/07: And here it is again without any gradient map, just curves and hue/sat Where will the line be drawn? What features are created? What features are enhanced? After a week of deliberating, I'd have thought there'd be an actual, precise answer.

What do you see before processing? : a coil with a variegated background

What do you see after processing?

It's all there before and after, merely enhanced and colored.

I like it alot as digital art. I like your initial shot as a picture.

Hey thanks for the comments and the condolences :) The DQ doesn't matter much to me but the ambiguity of the rules and their enforcement bugs me on principle.

This is a stunning piece of art! Congrats on being the one to create it. The DQ doesn't matter in the long run, the fact that you can have this hanging on your wall does.

This is my kind of picture. I love the "shine" and the abstract shapes. The color is excellent, and I'm not a big fan of purple. I don't tire of looking at it, as a matter of fact, I think it would be great to use for meditation. Sorry about the DQ, but like scores, does it really matter that much??? :)

Ingenious idea. Though I think I actually prefer the B&W outtake. :) But I do like what you did with the shot. I couldn't fathom how to do this in post (glad you included some steps). Creative as always. Too bad about the DQ

How are you supposed to know what you can or cannot do if it is not explained?

Incredibly cool image - I could gaze at this for hours and hours and hours.
One third of me is very curious as to what this is/how it was done (looks vaguely like red cabbage?..); one third of me ddoesn't want to know in case it spoils the magic; and one third doesn't care and says enjoy the image for what it is!

I like the abstract nature of this and the vibrant colors. Not sure I get pi out of it but I like it anyway.

I like this very much. The colors are strong and compelling and the composition is intriguing and works well with the challenge. I'll be curious to see how you achieved the effect.

It's a truly lovely picture, but it doesn't say "pi" to me.
