Camera set on B&W setting and on macro.

I used the manual setting on my camera and set the aperture at 8 and shutter speed to 1/160 to get more details. Then I just waited for the bee to 'walk' into the frame so it looks like the bee is standing next to a 'tower'.

All I did in PP is to square crop, resize, sharpen, and slight gamma adjust of .02 on RGB.

That's a lot of DOF for a macto. The title is perfect for this pic.

Well having just seen your response to my question about contrast and tone I now have a perfect example of what I should aspire to. STUNNING macro. The one problem I have with this type of shot is that the natural pigment colouration in flowers can fade/be spread unevenly. Which is OK in colour but can detract on a small scale (IMO) on B&W. Maybe a spot of dodging on the petals would have helped, but to be honest all we are talking about if this was in competition is moving it from an 8/9 to a 9/10

Simply beautiful

I really like how sharp the bee is and how you can see his proboscis (spelling?) sipping the nectar. Maybe a little more negative space below the bee would add, but then again, might make him too distant. Interesting !

very nice - but I don't find the petals helpful - I'd like a tighter crop maybe

wonderful closeup -bright,crisp, clear - but I really think this would work much better in color - I want to see the color on this flower and bee!

nice image, I havn't seen a bulb like that before. I would really like to see the 'tower' just a touch more contrasty, but over all its a nice image.

Really great composition. Nice that you didn't need that much processing. I will also take a few shots on strictly black and white setting as the month progresses. Anyway, your detail is really terrific, and the bee definitely added to the composition alot.

The detail on the centre of the flower is exquisite, so much so that I completely missed the fly when I first looked at it. The large petals look a bit like they lost detail, and the background at the top is a bit busy to my eyes.

Funny the thing that captures me the most in this shot is not the bee. I find the texture at the top of the "tower" to be very beautiful (and very well captured too!).

blown whites a tad here but the subject (bee) is in good shape.

You know, I cannot stop staring at the "tower". It's crisp and rich with detail. I am not much looking at the bee tho - eeg I hate bugs!

That is SO incredibly beautiful! I've just watched the Never-ending story with my children - and Nania - looks like a tower from those sorts of movies!

excellent shot of the bee .. great detail on him and the stalk of the flower ... i find the petals 'interesting' as a contrast to the bee and the stalk ... he looks overpowered by those huge petals ... i'm expecting them to close up on him!! ..

That is such AMAZING detail on that bee considering its such a small part of the photo! Wow! I love this! The composition of the flower is really striking too!

This is an awesome Day :)

very nice capture and good timing to catch the bee in the shot. the composition looks very interesting, almost like this bee is resting in the shade of kind of a palm tree :) i like it.
