post-challenge: I'm surprised this scored as well as it did. I really suck at predicting my score! hahaha

I thought it would be killed on dnmc, because the subject is not on a thirds intersection... only because there is no subject! The rule of thirds itself is my subject. More people seemed to get that than I could have imagined!

Cool take on thirds - I think this would look interesting completely flipped the other way up, too.

This is very pretty. I love the chain going into the red and coming out thru the blue. The detail on the wall is excellent and I love the sky reflection in the water.

curved thirds!! I agree with Deb, it is wonderful that I can't see from the beginning where the water level is. the title is absolutely great!

I really like the textures and colors here, and the straight chain cutting across the curved lines.

Hi from the CC,

First of all, great use of the rule of thirds, using the chain, edge of the reflection, and water line. The detail on the inside of the well is exceptional. Contrast is great throughout, and there's no under- or overexposure. I like that the tree is slightly out-of-focus, and the debris in the water helps to define the water line.

There are only two criticisms I have. First, that thin blue line that borders the water looks fake / hand-drawn. It could well have existed in the original scene, but it looks out of place, since it continues throughout with the same luminosity. Second, the image wasn't as exciting as some of the others in the competition. From a technical POV I find it to be an excellent shot, but I can understand why it didn't score as high as some of the others.

To sum up, this is a great shot with few (if any) technical flaws. Great job.

Regards,
Geoff Ball

I like this Don. Great use of ROT in a Team Suck sort of way. Where is the poem that goes with it?

This be most excellent. I like that you can't quite figure if it's a reflection or where the reflection begins. Love the light, the shadow, and the colors of this. And there's something about the chain and the tree and the differences between them that I like.

Photos like this are great for the challenge. Rules of Thirds used throughout the image. This is the true spirit of the challenge.

Curious how a face as the reflection might have looked instead of a tree(though I am biased toward people/animals :)

Still a great shot!

Nice capture - Interesting composition. Maybe just a tad boring?
