 The kettle is packed with dry ice and about half a cup of hot water was poured on it right before the shot (during the 10 second delay of the self-timer).
3 sequential 'strobe' flashes were used (manually triggered from SB800).

Clever idea -- did you try turning the flame on under the pot? I think blue flame with the ice-encrusted pot would look pretty interesting ...
