Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Simplicity (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Kitchen
Date: Dec 8, 2003
Aperture: f22
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200
Date Uploaded: Dec 8, 2003

The drawing pin (thumb tack) is on a sheet of glass with white card beneath, a second sheet of card is behind. Two flashes were used, a 550EX on camera to provide the fill beneath the head and a slave flash fired from above to create the shadow. A polariser was also used to minimise the reflection from the glass.

Yes, good shot. But making it float is not simple!. Why not have it touch? Or is it the idea not to have it touch the surface?

OK....i'll try to forgive the spots to the right of the subject and the possible abrasions under it as well...was shot as dropped or is there some physics going on behind the seen....if dropped its a nice capture and if physics the effect is very good. Excellent except for the aforementioned items.

Nice clear shot. Good twist to have it in air, but it's less dynamic than it could have been if a bit further up. While you did a very good job on this meeting the challenge, with some flare, I don't think it's as interesting a subject as many have found here. (Though this is one of the better nail theme shots in the challenge!)

Good idea!

Voters should not leave you up in the air over this one's score.

good idea to use glass to have this hovering above the paper, reflections are hardly visible (which is good).

It's floating.... how??

If it were not for the slight reflection, the tack would look like it was floating on air. Good cropping and lighting. Nice macro.

hey its floating, cool!

Nice! I like the impression of "floating" above the shadow.

Incredibly "cute" levitation effect! Bravo.

Very simple, nice. I like the way the pin appears to be hovering above its shadow.
