I wanted to do a photo like this when I chopped my hair off several weeks ago, but never did. It so happened that I had an appointment already scheduled at a salon for a color and highlight when the Hair challenge was announced with Expert Editing. I'm sure I puzzled the receptionists when I bounced in this morning with a purse, a big ole camera bag and a tripod, but once I explained it (to them, to Adam my colorist, and to a lady in the next chair over), I was given the okay and they let me set up along a row of chairs that was out of the way and not being used. Me in the chair is the "before", and me doing my hair is the "after". If you look closely, you can see that I'm even wearing different glasses - I got the new ones on Friday, and I was quite excited to get a bit of a makeover. It was a bit tricky, since the chairs swivel and needed to be in the same position for both shots, and then the tripod had to be set up with the camera and left completely untouched until the whole affair was finished. It didn't turn out to be as obvious as I had hoped, but it was fun! Thank you to Antoine du Chez's DTC salon for humoring me!

Post-challenge: No, the mirror isn't completely right, but those who thought the hands didn't match or the drier was in the wrong hand(s) are wrong. The mirror was created from the same two images as the foreground. The "wrong" part is that the drier needed to be behind the customer's shoulder instead of in front of it - but the actual positions of the hands are correct. The mirror just sees it from a very different angle!

This is the "after" I took to show my family:

What's different? A lot more color and streaks in the hair. It was ash-toned before, and now it has a lot of red and even a little black in it! The glasses are much funkier than the last pair. It's a shame the difference wasn't so obvious under salon lights!

Very creative and very well executed! What a great idea - pleased to see how well you pulled it off, too!

Nicely done. :) Only issue is the reflection doesn't match the positioning of the hands on the stylist. But overall a good job. :)

colors seem to be clashing here yet washed out. If the hairdresser were wearing something other than maroon (maybe the teal color on the opposite wall) this would have been more cohesive.

because your picture in the mirror doesn't match what you are doing standing up it looks a little funny, BUT... instead of making it that way (if you did) instead you should have flip flopped positions so that the mirros has the customer giving the hair dresser the make over. That would have been really cool looking.

This picture is puzzling, the reflection doesn't match up, and it appears to be the same person??? Great job!! 8

There was something strange going on here that made me stop. Must be the mirror image not mirroring the real (?) situation. :)
Besides the use of the same person for both persons in the shot of course. :)

Good points for the editing on the chair & in the mirror if this is all the same person. - 7

Very cleaver and nicely done. There is a problem with the position of the hair drier in the mirror, but not points off for that.

Nice effort, but we can see in the mirror where the woman is holding the blow-dryer with both hands and only one hand in the main photo. Keep practicing, you'll get it!

I don't think the self in the chair looks very happy about this setup! LOL Very nice concept and execution.

Ha, took me a few seconds to realize that was the same person. Cute idea. The reflection doesn't match, though, we should not be able to see the hairdryer in the mirror like that.

Ambitious idea and pretty well executed too. The mirror image is a tiny bit off... Well done.

Well, there something that's bothering me about this photo, and I'm not sure what. I don't think it's the lighting - the lighting looks really cool Maybe it's because the dark and shadowy areas are grainy. But anyways, this is an intersting shot - I like seeing their reflection in the mirror! Very cool.

Nice effect, and it does involve hair, but there doesn't seem to be any emotion captured. Could've used more sharpening, in my opinion.

i like this. especially the imposiblility of the 'stylist' in the mirror - the hands are completely different. that makes the image!

The mirror image of the woman holding the blow dryer doesn't match, but kudos for creativity.

not sure if it was on purpose or not but the mirror reflection is different, including the blow dryer being in the wrong hand.
