Hello from the critique club!

Interesting shot. it is hard to tell what the subject is, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like the lines of the composition. I like how the diagonal of the arm is balanced by the line of the clouds cutting across the frame.

The composition is inconventional (again, not necessarily a bad thing). THe hand is dead center, with the arm throwing the balance off to the left side. I think it's kind of interesting.

The conversion is very dark, and your shadows are blocked and have lost detail. That makes it especially hard to see the details that are important, like the definition of the two fingers that overlap with the palm. I think that hurt you the most here - the harsh lighting and lost details in the shadows.

Please feel free to pm me if you have any questions about my comment. Happy shooting!

Liza

Interesting shot. I'd brighten it up a bit.

I would have lie to see greater detail in the hand

Too dark

Somewhat too dark to see what we're looking at. Though I can vaguely make out a rough shape of a hand.

Why black and white? Use shadow/highlights to add some detail to that very dark hand - and in a Free Study - always clean up your sensor schmutz.

Needs to be lit from the camera side.

... not sure !!! I'm thinking I would have liked to see this in color.. There's not a lot of balance between the dark shades & the bright ones.. Maybe a little play with curves or contrast would give it more depth.
