| I didn't get through all the pictures last week for voting - so I am just finding this one now. A very touching photo - I wore a brace just like the one in the middle for about 2 years between 5-6 grade for perthes disease in my hip, so I know a little bit about one of the "shoes" shown here. As far as the picture goes I like the child's quilt that is on the floor in this shot - I think it brings a very personal feeling in contrast to the cold braces. I am sure this is a very emotional shot for you - thanks for submitting it. It does show another side to childhood that is not often portrayed. |

| This – I think – is a superb shot technically; the lighting and exposure are spot on. But, I think that the composition lacks something. It could be that everything’s a bit too central and tightly ordered giving the overall shot a somewhat cluttered feel. Perhaps a less formal layout would have helped. It meets the challenge and overall it’s not a bad shotâ€Â¦ (7) |

| This is so poignant. How so many children are taken for granted, and how so many go thru so much. This tells of a life time of ordeal, but I think the message could be told with one article as well, i.e. the brace in the middle. |

| I would love the hear this story if you care to tell it. It's not an exciting photo, per-se but, it really tell a story of and untraditional childhood and there is lots of feeling in this pohot. =6 syamjonimi |

I don't know that I could. This is both thought provoking and interesting visually, with the repetitive nature of the pairs of supports and shoes. Good colour too.

I want to vote this photo highly because I like the idea of portraying a childhood that many of us were spared from, but which is very real to some children. Growing up, my brother had Cystic Fibrosis (a chronic lung diease), so many many childhood memories revolve around medication, broken bones, trips to the hospital (which contrary to popular belief were not always depressing and sapped of all things childish).
When I re-examined this photo on it's photographic merit rather than it's subject matter, I found that many things did not appeal to me. I list them here simply for constructive puposes: 1) I think the background (quilt and bed) are too busy. 2) I think that the braces/casts/shoes should either be organized differently (I'm not sure how, but in a way that makes them look less on display) or you should pick a few of them and work with just those. The red/blue braces, the leather braces, and the leg casts are particularly interesting to me.
A different suggestion - not the intention that you were going for, but still interesting - is to focus solely on one of the casts. While that doesn't make the statement it seems you wanted to, I'm sure we can all reach back in our memories to the cast on that broken bone that made us the center of attention for a week or more while everyone else clamored to sign it.
Just thoughts, and too many of them at this point. :-) 5, just-married |

| Very impactful photo. You have the leg braces, and shoes centered very nicely, however, the rug/blanket isn't. I like how you have it in the photo makes it not just plain carpet. The lighting was good for this photo, no distracting shadows or glares. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |

| Ouch! This photo generates sympathy for the little boy who went through this. It also makes me feel a little sad. Personally, I think that the photo could have been done differently (don't know how but not just a simple 'lay the objects out and take a snap'). However, I think that the photo deserves praise for the feelings it arouses in the viewer (and in my opinion, that is largely what photography should be about). |

| This photo is sad, and it meets the challenge as it depicts one particular child's childhood, but it is fortunately atypical. Seeing the 'regular' shoes suggests (to me anyway) the success of those orthopaedic correction things, and that is a good thing. Creative and thoughtful on the part of the photographer, and the image is a good one. |

Wow. This shows a youth with many sad moments i think. I hope the operations helped ? As i can see the shoesizes are all different, meaning a lot of operations over a long time span, am i right ? Nice composition telling a real story. Therefor i rate this picture an 8.
