The red heavy textured chenille scarf over powers the model. I think a partial face close up would have dealt with that issue. As for skin processing in PS, that's a whole other issue worth considering.

the first thing that attracts my attention in this picture is her expression. makes me wonder what she's really thinking. looks a bit surprised but not totally, can't decide to give a full smile either. it's may be due to the fact that you just captured her in the middle of her putting a smile on her face. i kind of like that this portrait makes me think about its subject like this, not something that i do for most very nicely-posed portraits.

Black background can create a mood, but not in this shot. Clearly the mood of this shot is meant to be fun colorfulness, so the black background is just filler for the rest of the frame. You have stranded the model in her own gesture, making her seem unnecessarily phony, which is too bad because I get the impression that she's actually quite genuine and warm. The weird hat and scarf just add to this sense of isolation.

I like the model and the lighting, so all I would suggest is changing the setting. Or, if a more natural setting makes this sort of lighting impossible, then natural lighting will do just fine.

I am not against studio shots, btw. I am only against empty-studio shots.

Sandy - thanks for those kind words. i am a little puzzled myself by why this did so poorly. The comments were kinder than the marks. .

Interestingly it is not the same model as Ice Princess but her sister, joining in for the first time.

Awwww, darn! I think you got robbed. How can one portrait of her get a 6.6+ and then one equally as beautiful get a 5.6 ???????

But nothing takes away the beauty of this portrait! She is so fresh and pretty, and this is an awesome capture of her!

Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning. It's day two three now and I'm running late, sorry.
