Challenge: Spinning (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G6
Location: backyard, Illinois
Date: Mar 27, 2007
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/60
Date Uploaded: Mar 27, 2007

I tried to shoot this a few times. By the time I got to this shot, my model was worn out, and pretty sick of spinning, but it ended up the best composition. I attached my camera to a belt and tightened around my stomach.

For some reason I lost brightness and color when I saved for web in Photoshop--opening it back in PS gave me the color I wanted. Anyone know what gives?

BTW, she wasn't really THAT scared! She happens to be more dramatic than anything else, I think she was more annoyed than scared that I kept spinning her around--this expression ended up being the best result.

I hope the poor girl wasn't as terrified as she looks! Good composition

Love that expression, which you capitalized on with that title. I also like the composition, with the strong hand counterbalancing her face.

My Papa's Waltz
by Theodore Roethke

The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy.

We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother's countenance
Could not unfrown itself.

The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on one knuckle;
At every step you missed
My right ear scraped a buckle.

You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt.

I don't know what to think of this photo. It is interesting mainly because the fear on the girl's face is real. Therefore this seems cruel and exploitative. Good clarity, considering the spinning. The sky is a bit washed out, but technical aspects take a backseat to subject matter in this photo, I'd say. Fits the theme. Hurts that so many photos in this challenge used the same idea.

Nothing too exquisite, and it seems like a photo that I WILL NOT put up on a wall.

She looks scared as hell! Makes me laugh a bit, is that wrong? Only this that bothers me is that her arm is cut off. But you probably had one chance before she ran into the house in terror! Nice idea.

I love the look on her face.

I'm reminded of that photographer who took candy away from toddlers to get pics of them crying...what was her name? I can't remember it right now...

hehe, that's funny...did you attach the camera to your waist while you took the shot, or how did you do it?
