In PS Elements 5 - Conversion from RAW. Adjustments to levels, hue and saturation. Used magnetic lasso tool to select around the singer, cut then paste into it's own layer. Lighten the background layer add a drop shadow to the singer layer then flatten. Clone out minor areas around the cut and paste - and remove a dark shadow in the original and something from the bottom left.

The singer was part of the original photo but the drop shadow around him wasn't.

Why was this dq'd if the singer was part of the original photo? I like your work with this. Of course you were trying for an OTT, humorous effect. It's so odd that people love stuff like HDR but not this. Condolences on having your gift disqualified.

looks too fake

I'm not sure about the lightened/faded background look. It certainly draws out the subject, but I think the impact would be greater if the background was darkened instead of lightened. Also, I hope he sings better than he dresses.

sweet idea, but the bg is distracting

funny, but this looks like a bad composing

Hmmm... Assuming it's legal, I don't like the faded background, the odd shadow. I see you were trying to make the musician stand out, but you got carried away. Mighta been a good shot before editing. :(
