 A part of me wasnt sure if this would fly as a portrait here at DPC. But then I looked atthe last CP challenge and this is a similar comp to the blue ribbon winner. I dont expect to ribbon with this but hopefully a decent score and some good comments.

This is Aidan (again) posing in his room. The straight jacket is actually a straight jacket. Aimee made it to use in our juggling performances when I would juggle a kid from the audience. The jacket would keep themfrom flailing. I felt Elmo added a nice burst of color and pushed home the point that this is a littl ekid. Hopefully everyone will realize it is a straight jacket.

Shot with my 50mm and our speedlite flash. I have never really used the flash before but I really like the results on this one. The flash was bounced off the ceiling.

Editing - Raw conversion, minor cloning to clean up the wall, ALOT of dodging and burning all over the place, spot desat for wall and jacket, NI, radial gradient for vignette (fill layer, radial gradient, masked out what i didnt want, heavily gaussian blurred - thanks to xianart for that technique), resize, USM, border.

It might look a little plasticky - but I think the effect works well withthe intention of the image. We shall see what voters think. Maybe they are just sick of seeing my kid in pics here. Tough noogies! ;)

I gave this a 7. The spotlighting on aidan and elmo is awkward. The viewer doesn't feel like a voyeur if there is an obvious spotlight on the subject. And we like to feel like voyeurs.

I thought that was little Aidan! I think this is perfect for this challenge, and sorry it didn't finish higher. I love that little impish look on his face! He is such a cutie, and I think you captured him so well!

OMG! Great shot. I like the wit and humor. The Elmo is a nice touch too. I'm asking myself, "Did Elmo drive him to it?"

Love his expression. It goes perfectly with the image. Love any little kid who can raise one eyebrow like that :) A cute idea and well executed. A minor nitpick is that the vignette is a little strong for my taste. I need a couple of those jackets for my kids some days!
