I really like how this came out. I am hoping that Frank does as well and that maybe he will let me shoot him in a more controlled atmosphere.

Converted from RAW and tonemapped in Photomatix, cloned out watermark (I am too cheap to buy it yet), and then a ton of burning, dodging, cloning, spot blur, levels, spot saturation, NI, high pass sharpen, resize, USM. I dont have a normal workflow and just keep doing stuff til I get a result that is pleasing.

Edit to add that I edited to remove the tablecloth. ;)

Edit to add one more time - I took care of the brightness around his arms.

Wow, Tim, this is a superb portrait accomplished through expert editing skills. This really has many qualities of a good oil painting - luminosity in the skin tones, perfect detail even in the highlights, great contrast and detail. Have you considered entering this in the Color Portrait challenge? I think it'd do well. Ok, I just realized the dates are wrong and you can't. Too bad. Great job. How'd you do the bg?

Wow, you're a PS guru! Great job with toning down the warmth and the background looks terrific. I agree with Deb that the halo around his arms looks a tad bright.

Yeah, you probably ought to buy the software so you can not worry about the watermark. :-) This came out very nicely, though I think you could tone down or at least blend out the bright part around him a bit, mostly just by his arms. Very nice the way you brought out the detail in his clothes and face with your editing.
