Challenge: Image Grain II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G2
Location: Old Mystic, CT
Date: Mar 13, 2007
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Architecture, Infrared
Date Uploaded: Mar 12, 2007

infrared photo of what I believe is a shell of an old stone house, that someone has attempted to renovate. I liked the almost terrifying look of the clouds against the texture of the stone. I am hopeful about this one, and that's usually a bad sign. not sure if it's grainy enough.

This was an 11th hour replacement of a picture that was much more simplistic. The replaced picture had a look of antiquity, where this one is much more dismal looking.

Taken at lowest resolution jpeg, at highest ISO. Processing: slight crop to remove very bottom of frame (could see the attempted renovation in the form of concrete foundation). Hue/sat adjustment layer to remove cyan cast. Selective color layer for toning. Levels and curves layers. Save as PSD. Flatten, small amount of USM, then added Noise (around 3%, monochromatic, gaussian). Added border. would have loved to have been able to use Advanced editing on this one.

Cool image, Steve - I liked this image in the challenge - especially the rough looking sky. The colors are very surreal - especially with the brownish sky and the pinkish grey stone structure. I have driven past this building countless times and thought about photographing it - but I am usually with the Fam and they would rather not sit alongside the road and wait for me - it's the one on the hill above Old Mystic, right?

I guess now that you have claimed this building, I will need to find another ramshackled structure to photograph..

Nice work.

Perhaps a bit more grain for my liking would have made this shot more powerful. I still like the impact and quality

Very dramatic clouds ... I think they're clouds. And I like the irony of the intact gate when all the windows are missing. Makes for an interesting image.
