This one stopped me while I was voting, as I found it, in Don's words, oddly poignant. I think if you'd set up a tripod (if your friend's face were a tad sharper) this would have scored very highly. |

While some may fault technicals on this, I think the poignancy makes this a tremendous shot. Maybe a little sad, but mostly contemplative as your title suggests. A tribute to what has been and what's to come. Very well done. |

A couple points higher if subject more in focus. Indirect light from window is good though. |

very sad and touching photo. I wish it was just a little bit more in focus, but on the other hand the unfocus:) gives such a great candid feeling. I like her expression too. |

A photo-journalistic shot, especially for those of us who have been there.
Good idea to use B&W... wouldn't have been as poignant if in color or if the contrast was any higher.
