Ever since I received low votes (without explanation) on a photo that I liked a great deal, I have made it my habit to try to explain my votes, especially if they are low. These are the thoughts of one person; use what you can, disregard the rest.
Primarily, I found this photo visually unappealing. The over-exposed bit toward the top I think was intentional, but it was a distraction for me. Arguably, it is your focal point - since the photo is titled Open Door. Yet, there's nothing there that I can see to draw me out. Perhaps, the contrast of a dark house versus bright day outside, but it just didn't work for me. Perhaps if there'd been a blue sky or evidence of other kids playing outside, or something to draw me out.
I hope it's clear that I'm not trying to alter how you composed the photo; only explain why it didn't appeal to me. 2, just-married |

| A little more natural light inside would have helped a little. Like maybe opening a window or something. Just seems a little too dark inside. 6. |

| "You weren't raised in a barn...shut that door!" Definately a part of my childhood, thats for sure. Great job of capturing that moment. I'm not one for exaggerated bright spots, or shadows, but I must say I think it works here. I think the bright sun draws attention to the fact that the door is open. Good job and good luck in the challenge. |

| LOL, how true! I can hear my mother yelling at me! The outside light is a bit blown out, of course this is a difficult lighting combination. |

| I love the lighting in this photo. That glow from the outside light is most excellent :) I'm not sure that I understand the relationship between this image and childhood, but I'm still scoring well simply because I think this is a great photo... good work! = 9 - jmsetzler |

| I am not sure how this pertains to childhood but it is sort of nice. Maybe if you moved a little bit there wouldn't have been such a glare from the light. |

| I'm a sucker for atmospherics in a shot and you have captured the element perfectly. It meets the challenge in an unusual way – after all, the easiest way to lose your children is to leave the door open. The purist voter may pull the lighting apart or find something wrong with the composition or focus, but personally, I like the whole effect. It creates a surreal effectâ€Â¦ (10) |

| What, no swings? Actually, that's what I like about this photograph. It's understated, a bit dreamy with the soft focus and it's not prescriptive - any number of memories could be evoked by this. Some might say this doesn't fit the challenge but that's only if you don't use your imagination. In my top ten. |

| Nicely done as a picture. However the link with childhood as a picture is weak and depends entirely on the setting in this challenge. |
