Levels, curves, rotate and all that good stuff.

Oh wow, the reason I joined DPC was so I would get feedback on how I could get better as a photographer (since I am just an amateur). Never thought I would get this many comments about the “string”. Good call of aimeethetoo although she was a bit early in her prediction she was almost right on the money.

So here is the story:
I was walking by this flower arrangement, and my sleeve got caught and pulled one of the petals off. The petal came off but hung on by this “string” (which is part of the flower) for dear life. I never seen this before but I left it there. An hour later the arrangement looked like this. I thought it was too good to pass up as a photo opportunity. So there was no arrangement or artificial strings involved. I wanted to capture it as it was and therefore I did not clone out the “string”.

I thought that the DPC audience would be sophisticated enough to realize that it was not a prop string. I was more worried about the crack in the table and the corner of the table showing, like glad2badad pointed out.

Oh well, the reason I joined was to get comments, and I got some so it is all good. I guess I just have to realize that I am just a sub 6.0 photographer.

Thanks to all!

Magnus, for what it's worth I thought it was a great shot and gave it an 8. Maybe it helped that I realised it was entirely natural.

I like the colours and set up and I think it could have got you a 6 in a smaller challenge. Hang in there :- )

haha... no its not a fake string, it is part of the flower :) see above for comments. Thx to all for the comments!

Is that naturally hanging like that, or is it a thread?

I'm not sure if that's a piece of fishing line holding the petal off the table, if it is I would've tried to clone it out. Nice colors in the flowers against the background, I like the border too

Cute idea and nearly pulled off. Whatever is holding the falling petal is distracting - I'd have cloned that out. Same with the seam in the middle of the table running under the vase. The flowers themselves are well lit and focused. The horizon line of the table is running off to the right (rotate counter-clockwise about 2 degrees to straighten out). Close, but not quite there (the small details are important). Good luck in the challenge.

Too bad you can see the string. I think I would have shopped it out since this is an advanced challenge. Nice shot all the same though. 8

Nice idea but the line is still showing and the the falling petals would have much more impact if they were a little higher so they didn't blend into the table.

Very nice composition. Also love the colors in the flowers. Nicely done.

should have cloned out the string holding that petal!

I like it! This is a very clean photo, technically it looks very strong.

Great shot, but I wish you had cloned out the string

Is that a string suspending the petal?

This is good but I think I can see the line where you hung the "falling" petals. You could probably have cloned that in advanced editing.

you should have cloned out the thread holding the petal in the air...

Love the composition...particularly how the flowers trail off into the corner. Detail and clarity also very nice. Bold frame works. 10

The line showing from the fallen petal takes away from the shot

Interesting composition with these tulips. Love that they are leaning. I dont know if there is or not, but there looks like some type of piece of line attached to th one petal that is falling. If it is might have been better to clone it out. I am not going to account this ni my voting though cause I am not sure exactly whats going on there

So how many comments have you receieved so far about the string? Oo Oo can I guess?...let's see about 20 votes so far so 20 x 1 = about 20 eh? : ) Am I right? Hee hee! Voters seem to love to pounce on stuff like that as if it's something you are unaware of at this point! Lovely shot and a nice idea. Very pretty colors. I think my eyes might prefer about 1.5 inches of the negative space cropped off the left and a less chunky border but a nice flow to the shape of the tulips. 7
