In a way, this is almost a high-key photo in feeling -- the way the face of the bear and the smoke/fog are so brightly-lit I get the impression of a lot of light present with the subject hiding in a shadowed area, rather than an overall dimness. It looks kind of like a shot on a stage, with a spotlit performer. I guess I'd describe the lighting as rather harsh, and I think most people have an expectation of softer lighting, with smoother gradients and more rounded shapes when they are looking for a low-key image.
I'm not sure if the smoke adds or is a distraction, though it makes an interesting contrast with the sharper textures and angularity of the bear's skin. |

First let me say I love your copyright notice, may I have permission to do the same? As for me, the highlighted mist is what throws the photo off for me because it competes for my attention with the true subject.
Hope this helps.

Provides very good definition of the contours and detail. The point that strikes me is the light in the eye - gives it an animated look - a presence, despite it being a statue. |

The Technicals: Focus, contrast and lighting are well done. I do like the fog machine effect. (I need to get one)
The feel: I wonder if you could have emphasized the contours and textures of the bear more with a B&W conversion instead of color.
The game: The reality is that photos of figurines or statues rarely do well. Had you used a model with the same setup and same composition, I'm sure it would have scored at least a half point higher if not more. |

Leroy, I didn't vote in this challenge, but I do like this picture for several reasons. I think (in my own limited opinion) that this fits the challenge perfectly. The shadows, smoke and ambiance that is cast, along with the title you chose fits so well. I love the way you didn't center the subject, and the smoke almost appears to come from the sculpture itself - which adds a whole new mood to it all. |

I gave you a 6 on this shot ... I think that it fit the challenge well ... had a good composition and was nice and sharp ... I guess for me, it lacked the 'wow' factor that would have bumped it up a point or 2 ... IMHO the subject really wasn't that interesting ... |
