 What can I say. It's an unsharp mask. I bought it in Alaska a few years back, took it off the wall, put it in my light box, turned off the autofocus, and snapped some out of focus pics, from slightly off to a blurry mess. This is the one I liked best.

Hopefully people will get the joke and I won't place toooooooooo badly with this one. Not like I expect it to ribbon or anything. lol! Here's what it looks like when its not, ahem, unsharp:


Post-challenge: Too funny. Thanks for all the great comments ... made this challenge worth it. My first sub-5: Never knew you could have this much fun updating a 4.x!

For those who didn't get it, "unsharp mask" is a technique used to sharpen photos. Originally a darkroom technique, it is also now a sharpening filter that can be applied in photoshop, GIMP and other post-processing programs. Thought this one would be obvious around here, but apparently not as much as I thought.

Ugly Scary Mask - 5


A day later....Ok, when I first voted I thought this meant "needs USM" as in I'm going to submit a photo that really needs USM and call it USM. It hit me driving home from work that this is a literal representation of USM as in WOW that is a really un sharp mask. Bumping up to 7.
