That's really cool!! Nice catch. I tried it last night from my window - not sure if I got it or not, but I know it's not this good. In reading through the comments - that's at least three of us checking this out - Joe on the west coast, you on the east coast, and me in Germany. That's kinda neat all by itself.

Hey, very cool, Dave! I'm glad I got to see the shot you were talking about. I love the bright crescent and being able to see the rest of the moon's shape. That's Earthshine lighting it up! :)

Looks like it was a little hazy up there tonight. I am glad that you got to see it. New moon, and full moon are great for photos. The sky was killer clear here yesterday, and has smoke in it tonight from a couple of pasture fires going on around here now. I try to shoot the moon like this at 400 iso, and 1 sec, aperture, 3.5 or larger, in order to get detail in the umbra. If I expose longer than about 3 sec, the moon moves and smears the bright part too much.

Wonderful! I'm wondering if a higher ISO would have let you have a faster shutter speed, thus making the sky darker. Not that I'm the expert or anything. :o)

Like your title. I can attest to this being shot tonight, because that is Venus in the bottom of the image. Beautiful job of capturing this.
