Wrong moral!!

What's wrong about it? 8) To me, it's a pretty boring picture of a guy that got caught in the rain. I voted it a 4!

The moral in this case is that originality offends convention.

How funny!!!! Kind of comforting tho. . .when you have a picture that tanks and you think of this example it will reassure that the voting masses are not "gospel" :)

I love the DQ details - I guess even poor Henri gets the boot if he doesn't manage to take his photo during the challenge window. No matter that he's dead. What an interesting idea by the Site Council (I assume the Site Council did this?) to put a 'real' street photo into the mix. I gave him a 5. Either I have a bad eye, DPC has a lot of really good photogs, or poor Henri didn't have Photoshop. Probably all three.

Edit to add: Posthumous gave this a 10 during the challenge. I think I'll start asking Posthumous to evaluate all my images, and maybe I'll end up famous, too :-)

So glad I didn't post a comment along with my 6.

Funny to see how some people just edited their comments, though

This reminds me of the time in college when someone submitted one of Shakespeare's lesser known sonnets as a homework assignment in an English poetry class. Shakespeare got a "C". Moral of the story: Even masters don't produce masterpieces every time.

obviously a compliment to Arcady also

This coming from *you*, Nick, I'm very flattered. :) Henri got a 6 from me for this image, BTW.

The funniest thing is that I almost entered my own "Crossing" into this challenge, it was decided by a coin toss:

In the light of the fact that this was a HCB Image, the comments below are hilarious Some people were talking to a dead man! :-)
 Comments Made During the Challenge

the subject seems to be reacting to your composition instead of the rain. 10

absolutely cool

-i would imagine that you will be getting plenty of people wondering why you put kept the tree in the frame. 8

-bump to 9. been thinking is this arcady?

-well i'm back again as I have been thinking about this image all week, for one that I like it and another that it looks familiar. This is a HCB photograph isnt it. I am surprised that it has lasted this long in the challenge. I am not going report the image because I am interested as to the comments that you have recieved and I can imagine that it will not appeal to the masses so it will not change the ribbons.
I think I know why you have done this but not to say that I agree with it.

nick

obviously a compliment to Arcady also :)

- second thoughts I am going to report this. sorry, kinda

Dommage que l'arbre gène ! I like the reflexion in the street, the dotted line... but its a pitty the tree is there in the front line.
02/23/2007 07:23:44 AM
I can just feel the rain. 8
02/23/2007 12:34:15 AM
Whoa! That tree takes too much focus off your subject and he/she is a bit too centered. I do like the angle of the ground paint. It serves nicely to draw the viewer right into the main subject. That is only after we get beyond that big tree in the foreground. A different angle would have done wonders for this one. Your lighting and tonal range are both pretty strong, so you had a nice scene that fit well into the challenge.

This works for me - I especially like the dot-dots, the creative use of the coat by the gentleman, and the scool crossing sign in the background. Has a sense of downtroddeness to it (I know, not a word) enhanced by the nasty weather conditions.
02/22/2007 05:37:40 AM
I like the idea behind this picture and I can feel how miserable the subject must be in the rain, but the tree to the left of him is distracting.
02/21/2007 11:49:25 PM
I think i know this one. Its by Bresson him self.
02/21/2007 09:02:04 PM
very good composition, captures the moment.
02/21/2007 07:03:25 PM
strong image. i'm torn by the tree and it's possible use in the composition. it does section off the 2 most interesting pieces the man and the sign, but it does pretty much overtake the photo.
02/21/2007 06:53:32 AM
:) Nice picture.
02/20/2007 07:03:11 AM
The tree in the front is disturbing a great shot. (I know you can't move the tree :) )
02/19/2007 07:50:59 PM
hmmmmm
02/19/2007 03:26:39 PM
One would immediately ask why the tree in the middle of the composition? Since Henri's dead, I guess we'll never know. I did give it a 7 before I realized what I was looking at. ;)
02/19/2007 03:24:33 PM
the tree in the foreground is sooooooo distracting, HCB would never put up with this kind of sloppiness. Subject too centered, really, this is the best you could do?

I am offend that this was even entered. Please keep this level of talent where it belongs, on a Kodak Instamatic.

Nice work Henri ;-)
02/19/2007 08:10:04 AM
Wow you are a dedicated photographer to go out in these elements. Very nicely composed, the sharpness and clarity are excellant on your subject. Nice work.
02/19/2007 05:15:14 AM
This is what the challenge is all about. Love it, but wish that tree wasn't in the foreground
02/19/2007 01:59:10 AM
