"Union Station" at 10th & Broadway in Louisville, Ky.

This station was begun in 1880 and finished in 1891, after a nearly decade-long delay in construction because of costs until work resumed in 1889. It was built for the L & N (Louisville & Nashville) railroad, and for years was the largest passenger railroad station in the South. Rail service ceased at Union Station in 1976. The building still survives at 10th and Broadway as the headquarters for TARC, the city bus system. A hopeful sign: limited passenger rail service returned to Union Station in 2001.

Beautiful building...I too would have thought it was an old church. I like how the stoplight is also in the picture showing a contrast between old and new.

Jeeeeeez, that's the prettiest railway station I've ever seen. I thought for sure it was an old historic church. The arthitecture is so amazing. Larger than life. It's amazing that you got a street in Louisville that was empty too. Great photo.

It would also be nice with snow falling around it. Interesting structure. I wonder why there are so many "Union Stations" in this country.

I think this would also be lovely in black and white.

Beautiful structure, and very similar to the one in Nashville. I think that it had been turned into a shopping and dining center last time that I was there.
