REALLY nice. She looks comfortable, even though she's draped on a rock. The lighting is GREAT! You did a good job, despite the less than perfect circumstances. |

You see, I was thinking that you could have set up a reflector to do this shot... but, if you working solo, it may be easier to do what you did and that is use a softbox/flash.
All & all... I like the end result. You did a great job metering this shot. I see a lot of people who don't do this and when they use the flash the background looks muddy and washed out and the resulting image looks drab. Or, the opposite happens, the background is too bright and causes an unnatural trasition to the subject. This is clean, crisp and spot on.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the comments - As usual I kept the lighting as simple as can be, because to be honest i am not that great at lighting - I am actually going on a weekend lighting course this year as i want to learn some more techniques. Any way I always meter for the background first and then set my light accordingly - I often try and put my subject in the shade to avoid hot spots from the sun. For this shot a softbox was placed just to the right of her - If you look closely at the sand you can see we just had enough shade to cover her totally but it was rising very quickly. I never have any help on these shoots - No assistants or anything so it's always a bit of a mad dash.
Cheers

Stunning. Beautifully lit.
You can tell you're a pro, no questions.
I'd love to see a lighting set up here, or just how you did it? |
