After a 3 month hiatus of no submissions, I couldn't stand it any longer and decided to create a traditional still life and keep it "painterly".

Ran out to a thrift store and bought some plates, a mug and a sheet and painted them with gray tempra paint. The sheet was still pretty wet with paint and it was a constant battle to make sure that I didn't get any paint on my hands and then on my camera...lots of hand washing!

Compact fluorescent light from the left and moved around a small flashlight shining on the pears. Used my Expodisc to nail the WB of the fluorescent light.

CS3 Beta (loving the new RAW interface!): duotoned orange on the highlights, separate levels for the backdrop, plates & pears, little sat boost on the pears, touch of vignetting in the corners, resized, USM.

I'm pleased with the outcome...hope this does well, but if not at least I've got the update button back in my life!

This is fabulous - I love how the background and the dishes are so dull and subtle... and how in brilliant contrast the pears are glowing and ablaze with color. It makes for a glorious image - so subtle, yet so brilliant!

Very artistic. Great composition & lighting setup. This would look right at home framed in a gallery.

I like what you did. The brightness on the fruit really creates a nice contrast. I also like how well the textures show up.

A mesmerizing photo indeed... I would have been fooled and thought it was a drawing if it was not part of a photograph contest. A great job!

Wow, the spotlighting on the pears really make them stand out from the background! In some ways this almost takes on the appearance of an oil painting. I love the look of this still life but I think it needs a tad more illumination on the pitcher and plates. Upping the gamma a tad or using a little more light would make those objects stand out a little more from their background. Hmmmm...just had a thought that adding a little more light might be problematic if you used a long exposure with light painting technique. If so then the only way to brighten up those objects a bit is to use gamma correction selectively or even brightness/contrast levels.
