A little view of some native Florida landscape. This is what much of this area near the river looked like when the pioneers first came here. The trees are sabal palm, which we call "swamp cabbage" because there is about 3 lb of each tree near the top that is excellent to eat and full of potassium. More about that later. There is an oak, and a native grape vine at the right side. There is one exotic plant, a sour orange tree on the left. The sour oranges make a great drink made just as you would lemon aide. They are very tart, and they make good pies too. Many of todays orange varities are grafted to sour root stock for bug and rot resistance.
I could hear owls calling when I was shooting this.
Taken after sunset, tripod shot. Not cropped, from camera then lighten a little to reduce contrast and make details easier to see.
