I agree with everyone who said the long lens makes it pop (nice shallow DoF), but I also agree including a bit more of it in the frame (so zooming out slightly or stepping back a bit) might have strengthened the composition a bit. |

This is a beautiful shot!! Growing up in Texas, I remember peeling these off my clothing by the hundreds. Nice job. |

This is just stunning, and such wonderful "DOF" in this one.....
I also love the tight crop, and the textures alone are really great, and so is this image..... |

It is a close crop but it also adds interest to the picture with the focus right on the texture of the thistle. |

The zoom lets you show great detail, but I wish the top and bottom were not cut off. I think it would work well if you turned the camera 90 degrees. |

I know what you mean about the zoom but only because the top of the thistle has been cut off a little, I really like this though, the colours are great and the detail is beautiful. |

Wow, I LOVE this! I'm one that tends to love those close cropped "in yoru face" photos. They just jump right out at you. I love the way the earth tones blend with that beautiful blue background. This is a great shallow depth of field photo.

I like the close crop. The lighting also works well here, and the background bokeh is nice. |

Dipsacus fullonum or common teasel an essential part of the Industrial Revolution because it was used in cotton mills to comb seeds out of the cotton heads. |

Nice shot, good DOF but a little too tight of a crop |

I wouldn't change it, it brings you right into the textures. :) |

Terrific shot! I really like how the light comes through the spines on the right. |

I don't think that you zoomed in too much at all. By using longer focal length, you have reduced DOF and put the sharpness right where it does the most good.
I also like "da border,".. girl : ) |

Beautiful, I like the fact it is so close, the shapes and the textures really add to the shot, all the lines and different tones make it such a pleasure to look at. |

I like the DOF, I especially like the twists and turns shown by the thistles. |
