I was diagnosed with asthma in 2001 and today I had a bad attack. It's something that happens every now and again. Usually triggered by aerosols but due to my recent ill health it has become a more frequent thing. I have a nebuliser at home incase it gets bad and after I had used it and calmed down I thought it might be interesting to try and take a photo to enter into BAD!!
So, this is me using my nebuliser. My head is always slightly tilted as it makes the mask more comfortable. I always close my eyes to help me relax and to steady my breathing.
Am really unsure about this entry. I am very self concious so would never normally dream of entering anything including myself in it but for some reason this feels ok. I can never understand the DPC voters so I am not even going to try and make any predictions about which way this will go!
I did look up the word bad at www.dictionary.com and found many meanings for the word! Here are just a few which helped to convince me this shot met the challenge title...
Bad
1. not good in any manner or degree.
8. suffering from sickness, ill health, pain, or injury; sick; ill: He felt bad from eating the green apples.
9. not healthy or in good physical condition; diseased, decayed, or physically weakened: A bad heart kept him out of the army.
15. more uncomfortable, persistent, painful, or dangerous than usual; severe: a bad attack of asthma.

This is a bare-your-soul shot. Very honest and emotional. |

A beautifully personal and emotional shot that gives me a glimpse into dealing with asthma. IMO the best photos of all are the ones that make me feel something, learn something, and/or experience something on a level I never have before. This shot defintely does that. Very well composed. Thank you for investing in it and having the courage to share it. |

having a son who has had to use a neb in the past, I can relate. It is good that there is something you can do, but it is not good that you have to do it. Good black and white and I like the composition -- how the tube comes up and into the frame. Good shot. |

nice profile there girlie ;-)
lighting is nice. not sure about the shirt showing... I kinda like this with shoulder cropped out...but also agree tube should be in. I TOTALLY get your take on "bad" in this shot and agree...we've a neb at home also.
congrats on nice score and emotive shot... |

technically it needs work ... i think the lighting is a bit off ... more detail is needed on the asthma apparatus and perhaps a black shirt to prevent the blown highlights.
but i think the composition is good ... use of the frame is very, very good. the tube comes in from the bottom corner very nicely and the negative space works well to draw attention to the subject.
to be honest, i think you've under processed this shot because it's a self portrait ... i think that comes from a reluctance or fear to express yourself. adding a little more light and sharpness to the shot would make the world of difference.
overall, a very good shot ... and quite an impact! 8! |

I hope everyone see it, for what it truely is, and thats the "truth of the matter".....
I love this, the composition the crop and the use of Black & white to make it more dramatic and real.
I definately have no quarms in giving it top votes, a "10" from me..... |
