I got out of the house, and even left my street! In fact, I drove all the way up to Moncks Corner (About 20 miles) hoping to get some nice shots of the lake on this cloudy, overcast day. (What was I thinking?) :)

While I was walking along a trail next to the boat ramp, this Heron took off from the weeds about ten feet from me. I quickly (and I do mean quickly! Good thing the camera was already on!) grabbed this shot. I almost deleted it because of the reeds in the foreground, but decided to look at it when I got home. Glad I did, because, while it's not a ribbon winner by any means, I really like the feel of this shot. Somehow I actually got the focus on the bird which is really sharp in the full size image!

I am glad you kept it I like the reeds! if I had try this with my cheap long zoom focusing would have gone completely hay wire, lol.

I like that the reeds in the foreground are out of focus but you managed to get the focus on the heron. What a lucky shot and great capture. I never seem to be quick enough to catch them when they are taking off.

The reeds sure add depth. I'm glad you didn't delete it too.

good job you didn't delete it.
I've got loads of pictures of birds and whilst they seem like a good idea when I take them, they all look so boring when I get home.
Why?
Because they don't have anything else of interest in the picture.
The reeds in the foreground really give it a sense of depth.
And also of movement.
And it shows some of the enviroment that you were in when you took the picture.

I'm glad you are getting out of the house more :-)

Excellent rection time, and fortunate that your camera was ready. I like the weeds as they add a sense of what the scene looks like instead of just a bird with water behind it.

Yes, amazing that the focus is on the bird. Love the color of the reeds in contrast to the water/sky/bird. Great shot.

i reckon the reeds really work and great capture .. i find photography a very exciting pursuit!!! ... especially at moments like this one ......
i have my camera set so that it turns itself off/standby if i havent pressed any buttons for about 30 secs ... that way if something happens and i've gotta be quick, then at least i dont have to turn it on ... i need all the help i can get!!! ..
