I shot some of these last week and liked them. The glasses in the original shoot done in front of a variety of backgrounds were just off center enough to need a re-shoot which I did last night.

I chose a background from some I made a while ago in PS Elements and have used for other refraction type images. I put some large books in front of the computer monitor and placed a 12x12" piece of glass on top. Set the two glasses filled with water on the glass directly in front of the monitor. Shot with the camera on a tripod and using the manual remote. The image shows the edge of the mirror as the end of the faux table and the refractions and reflections of the background on the mirror and the glasses. Probably going to get a lot of DNMC friends going on on about it because it is not ON the table. But I like the image and I love the way the water in the glass refracts the pattern. Enjoy.

Post: Convert from raw in PSElements 3.0 with a +0.33 exposure compensation and changing the white balance from overcast(cloudy) to shade (shade has always worked best for me when shooting with the ambient light of the computer monitor alone to get the best color match in the image). Cloned dust spots....got a big nasty striped one now...I just ordered an Artic Butterfly Brush from Visible Dust so hopefully this will not be a problem in the near future. Curves adjustment. Crop. Sharpen. Resize. Sharpen.

So I looked at the original submission here and thought it OK but then I looked at it at work.....DULL! D-U-L-L! So when I got home from work and rehearsal tonight I did a layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation to brighten it up a bit. Resized. Sharpened.

I'd really like this, and I would like it even more if the dark edges were cropped off.

Good attempt, guess that's an LCD screen given the moire-ing in the glasses. Any reason you didn't crop the black edges and mirror edge at the bottom out? 6

Interesting image. I like the crazy colors of the background. I think the picture would be even better if the glasses stood out a little more from the background. Nice try though!

Really bright. Interesting shot. Like the distortion in the background through the water in the glass.

I would have like this better cropped to the edge of the colors. Great idea! 6

I like all the colors in the background. My favorite part of the image is how it looks like the drink in the glass is the same color as what the background is.

Very nice. Great choice of crop and use of mirror and back drop with framed elements on the right and left. is this an optical illusion as well? The stems look tilted, but I imagine they are straight.

Size caused moire (ignored)

Very cool shot! I'd prefer a tighter crop though to eliminate the sides and a touch off the bottom.

I have a feeling I have seen this many times. to me the background here looks distracting, the lines on it don't correspond with the composition and with the glasses. but it's only my opinion. I would probably cropped the black think borders on both sides of the photo.
