 This was taken in my home with a black cloth for a backdrop. On the left side was natural day light and on the camera was my sb-600 speedlight. I was going for a good DOF shot. I am new to photography so my settings were set to portrait Auto.
The image was shot in RAW and converted with PHE 5 and only minor adjustments were made with exposure/tint/contrast/white ballance, then added frame and saved for web.

The technicals of this shot are all very good.. lighting, DOF, compositions. I just don't really like the whole concept of having the girl blurred in the back, I find it really distracting and keep feeling as though I should be seeing her esp with a title referencing what she's doing back there.

Excellent composition and use of DOF! For my tastes, I'd like to see the roses sharpened just a tad more. Well done, regardless!

comments: Nice, I think the flowers could be a tad bit sharper and I think the white one is over exposed some. I like the idea though and you mostly pulled it off.

not really shallow enough... maybe a better shot could have been super close on the red rose, low angle with repetitious petals and water detail, not even include the white flower or the superfluous background..
