This photoshoot caused a pretty good arguement with my queen, so I don't think I'll be doing another Nude challenge! Not sure how this will do, but I'm putting it on to feed my update addiction.

My guess: 6.145
Wife: 5.8 - she doesn't care for the picture

Post challenge:

Thank you for all the great comments. The further away from the arguement I got the more I liked this picture. I think initially it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Thanks again!

The make up ... would have been well worth all the arguing. As someone else mentioned you just get drawn to this great shot. Well done.

That is an extraordinary picture. The use of softness is one thing, but the use of lighting to work on shadows is what really brings beauty to this... I wish I could fave this.

Made me go and grab my camera and show it the pic. makes me want to go out and get a beautiful wife more... :)

I think initially it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Probably not a good choice of words, especially if your trying to end the argument. LMAO!

As for the photo, its very pleasing to the eye. You can walk through all of these photos, and this one holds your attention. Very calmly dramatic, if that makes sense.

Now for the wife, tell'r to relax it would be a very difficult task to take a bad photo of somebody so stunning.

Hey, yanno what? You have the most beautiful models in your life ;) (Macey and the kids)

Your wife is stunning, the pose is awesome her facial expression has a story behind it and its up to us to figure out what she is feeling in the moment.. I love that.
I'm not huge on the selective desat stuff however I am thrilled to see the score exceeded both of your expectations. Congrats on the top 5!!! Sorry to hear the shoot caused some upset within your lives.. however, the result of you working together was beautiful.

a lot of people predicted you for a ribbon ... me included.

this is one of the best compositions i've seen for a while. you should stick this on dcprints ... you'd sell a stack of them! :)

i gave you a 10 and a comment ... why anyone would vote below 5 is beyond me ...

brilliant work. well done!

I understand the argument - I have some friends whom might like to pose for a nude challenge and yet I do not go there - yet I would like to take a photo like this one day - it is real good! I gave ya an 8!

Wow, you certainly blew away your prediction! You have so many terrific shots of your wife, I hope she agrees to pose for you again soon. :)

Looks like you can cross an item off your list (get another 7+. I am going to have to say that if you eliminated the people who voted this down for the selective desat you probably would have won (or at least ribboned). I do like the lighting that you used and I myself love the desat. Congrats on the top 5 finish in any event.

Very well done and added to my favorites. I really like the softness of her skin in this photo. The red really adds to the overall effect. IMHO, a very good job in finding such a flattering pose.

I like the selective desaturation concept, but I'm not sure that I like the silhouette/boundary between the sheet and her skin.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/31/2007 12:48:23 PM
Wow, that red is almost too red. Still lovely nonetheless. Great lighting. I'd like to know your lighting setup here. It looks great.

01/31/2007 12:42:15 PM
I don't know.. placement of her hands (sexy) doesn't really fit her face looking down (shy). crossing her arms around her breasts might have worked better for me.

Beautiful composition. A definite Ribbon in my book.

01/31/2007 10:05:39 AM
I'm never too sure of the modesty poses they seem to deform the body she looks lopsided the red cover lifts the B/w but agian it seems to be on its own there for effect sorry if I appear harsh but this is one challenge where the compitition is awesome and the benchmark is high. Howevr you have a terrific model and probably better images than this 7

01/31/2007 09:00:02 AM
Gorgeous. Super model, and great creativity in use of lighting and colors!
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/31/2007 08:35:06 AM
Certainly a beautiful shot, but a few things jump out at me. The selective desaturation works well for this particular image, but the skins seem to be overly smooth. I think you went a little heavy on the NeatImage. As far as the pose in concerned, the placement of the hands feels a little "forced". The expression is great and the model is certainly beautiful, but the forced placement of the hands takes away from the overall "pensive" feel to her expression.

Nice contrast between the skin and red cloth
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/30/2007 09:41:23 PM
The red totally kills this shot for me. The image is no longer about the expression, the light or the pose anymore, it's about that blazing red thing. You have a lovely model, the focus should be on her expression, her pose, her form and how the light plays and interacts with them.

Without the red - 8

With the red - 3

Yes, I think it's that obnoxious.

Very nice lighting. The red material gives a nice strong base to the composition.

01/30/2007 02:16:51 AM
mmm... I have some doubt for your choice for a composition in the middle. it work and the square crop is a good choice to valorize this choice but perhaps the image is too much static?

good lighting, pose and expression. don't care for the partial coloring/desat - doesn't add IMO. she seems a bit lost there in the center, wish the composition was more interesting or there was some background included. had cloned out the tattoo on the foot or presented it nicer

Now this looks like Judi's work to me with the high key and scarlet.
I think it's a beautifully lit and composed shot. I like the tension between the high key and scarlet wrap. If I was going to nitpick I would say that the model ends up looking a little 'lopsided', but all in all a great shot.

we all know this lovely lady! I am giving you a 10 but I would add the pose of the legs seems a little awkward, perhaps one arm covering the breasts and both legs off to the side..but thats just me, I would love to see some outtakes from this shoot!

01/29/2007 02:30:57 AM
Beautiful selective desat, but I'd decrease the saturation of the Red a tad, right now this is the first thing my eyes gets drawn to.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/29/2007 01:58:08 AM
Good composition, but the excessive neatimage / overlaid gaussian blur makes this look far too unpleasantly plastic. This isn't helped by the way the image appears to have been desaturated - try using the channel mixer with more green and less red from the original image to make the skin tones look less pasty.

01/29/2007 01:31:47 AM
Yep! I'm tempted. Nice pose

01/29/2007 01:26:40 AM
Awesome, tasteful, well done shot. The exposure is great, the flesh tones are awesome and the partial desaturation is very nice. Very nice contrast against the pure white background. Beautiful subject! Good luck with the challenge!!!

01/29/2007 12:52:17 AM
really like the shot but the red was too overdone for me.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/28/2007 11:51:42 PM
I'm not sure the red was an enhancement. It might have been better as a light gray. The tones in the rest of the shot are great though.

01/28/2007 11:44:42 PM
I'd like to see the original to see what you did to the background. and maybe you could've cloned away the veins on her arm...everything els is really nice! pose and expression are great.

Another one of my picks for the top slots, I know how hard it is to get just red.. well done

The red may be too bold or perhaps over-balanced. Pulls away from the subject. Needs red at the top. Perhaps re-shoot and instead of the model covering her breasts have her holding a red rose or apple.

01/28/2007 07:26:29 PM
Very nicely done, Todd. Soft pose, perfect lighting as always. The partial desat is a little bit cliche for me, but that's a personal preference. the rest of the shot is more than good enough to make up for it...should go over well with the DP crowd :)

By the way...offer Macey my congratulations on getting the ripped bod back...no way I'd have guessed she was a mom of two if I didn't know better.

Good on ya both...excellent entry.

Smoking hot model, great composition, and I think the desat works well here. This shot drips sex and I think in large part that's because nothing is explicitly shown here. Well done, this is one of my favorites in the challenge. Hope you do well.
