Thanks to Melethia for providing the inspiration from her lovely photo.

The title comes from a quote attributed to Gabriel Harrison, writer and photographer,
"You cannot look upon anything in nature without being reminded of some peculiar and beautiful result if daguerreotyped; even the small blade of grass..."

This photograph is from a church nearby that attracts birds to its feeders. This is the normal roosting position of the birds.
When a large vehichle like a bus or truck comes by the birds all fly away.

The challenge photograph was taken when the birds were returning to roost. My husband safe and sound in the car nearby said, "I thought they were going to swoop down on top of you." I survived without any bird poop.

Even as I voted, I was reminded of Melethia's abstract pigeons, but thought it surely was a coincidence manufactured by my pointy little brain. But no - it was intentional, after all! Frankly the two photos would look excellent hanging in tandem in a little gallery somewhere. Deb's reminds me of whirling bits of Swedish glass, and yours reminds me of flying pieces of bronze and gold. It's the contrast in seeming weight and heft that make these two photos so interesting to me on a side-by-side basis. Anyway, love them both.

I think this is a great shot. The timing is good, and the colours are well-captured. The only thing that takes away from it in my view is the one bird top-right that is way in the foreground compared to the others in that section of the shot. Were it not for that bird I think it would be even better.

Thanks for the compliment!! I'm quite flattered and I'm very delighted with the result you got. I know I hate it when people say this but it really is woefully underrated. I love the golden tones of the wings and the cacophony of flight you can almost hear from this photograph. Lovely photograph!

The sheer number of birds is impressive, like a Hitchcock movie.

I might have considered cropping out the building.

A terrific shot of chaos and near perfection. The lighting is terrific and the use of the frame is great. Not sure I would want to be standing underneath these guys. One of my highest rated in the challege, nice work.

Not sure what I think about the busyness of it with the closer birds OOF.

Hmmm - I really like this: I can't put my finger on it. I think the tones, and the varying focal points rather draw the viewer into this. The movement brings the picture to life.

Wow. Darn it, did you have to have the building in the rear left? I have to give you a 7 now.
