A picture of the last blooming flowers in our backyard. The flowers are called Chinese Lantern and are also known as Winter Cherry or Strawberry Tomato.

I basically cropped this shot to an 8 x 10 format then desaturated all colours except for red. I like the effect the desaturation has created. It almsot looks like the orange/red lantern is lighting up the stem on which it is leaning.

Slightly sharpened with USM.

This is going to be my first submission to DPC prints :)

I love when the photographer is bold. A lot of people on this website can't say that; you can. You were unafraid to get up close to your subject and explore. You found an interesting subject, however I think we'd agree that the background isn't ideal. But because you had the sense to focus wholey on the foreground, the juxtaposition, this photo turned out pretty well. The texture is amazing.

Nice copmositio and dof. The red/orange color really jumps out at you. The light is also nice.

There is too much going on in this shot for this selective desaturation to work well. I would like to see it in full color with maybe a selective muting instead of elimination of the colors that you don\'t want so much of (if that doesn\'t make sense, PM me after the challenge!)

these things are so cool. i like the selective color. composition seems a little weird somehow... maybe its all the unused space on the left. i'm not sure how much it really adds to the shot. i think it might also help to have the subject and the background contrast even more... have one be lighter and the other darker.

The DOF here has given a wonderful 3D feeling to this. Excellent.
