See this is a good shot Charlie!! Congrats..
The voters nailed you because it isnt a portrait, but u know that now :))
But low votes do not neccesarily mean a shot is bad...I like it..a little edit and it would be great! |

Typically I love street scenes.. but for portraits I look for more detail in the person who is the focus of the composition.. even if the fiddle were more detailed.. great idea though.. I do love environmental portraits. |

Not a portrait (or subject too far) = 1 |

I feel the fiddler is a little lost with so many other people and the busy background - if he had been looking towards the camera it might have helped. Perhaps the shot here is from knee level where the group of people are on the left - looking up at the fiddler to catch his face with the case and money in the foreground? |

An angle that showed the fiddle more clearly would have worked better for me. I like how it shows all the people going by and no one paying attention. |

Focus is a little soft on your main subject here (the fiddler) and while I'm not a pro, this does not feel like a portrait to me. |

I think this needs HUGELY more cropping IMO. |

Man, it just doesn't fit my definition of a "portrait". Too far away, too many other distracting things to look at. If you didn't mention fiddler, I would have suspect I was suppose to look at the closest guy (the one on the right walking away). I would never have even noticed the fiddler (or figured out that he had an instrument in his hands). |

I hope you get closer to the fiddler next time. |

I don't think this is a portrait. |

maybe 30 feet closer?
from this far away I wouldn't really even know what you took a photo of if it wasn't for the title. Go talk to him, don't be scared! :-) |

I think I would caracterize this as a candid street shot and not a portrait... |

Without the title I would have no idea what this was a picture of. Not my idea of a portrait. |

Needs a much tighter crop IMO. |

I find my eye wandering around the image vs. the main subject. |
