Acting on one of my New Year's Resolutions, here's my first entry on DPC ... after lurking for more than a year now. And what better way to start than with a self portrait? :)

My wife and family think I'm on the computer 24/7 (hence the title), so I thought that the perfect self representation. Taken tripod mounted (obviously) using Adidt R3 remote shutter release using the remote transmitter.

PP included minor tweaks during RAW conversion then the following in CS3: Slight crop, Selective Color (Blacks + 5%), Channel Mixer for B&W conversion, Curves (intermediate contrast), Levels and finally Smart Sharpen (.75@150%, lens blur/more accurate, basic mode) before downsizing and saving.

Very interesting approach. I like this. Too bad the 'Dell' logo sits so low on the laptop, would have been a little stronger composition if the laptop only took up the lower third instead of half. Nonetheless, nice work. Good luck in the challenge.

Strangely, I got it that it was a laptop before I scrolled down and saw the "Dell". Maybe just me, but I think it looks better cropped halfway up the back of the screen. The "Dell" symbol distracts from the rest of the shot.

Great lighting, and I like the reflection of the screen in his eyes.

too much foreground. Great exression and tone. Logo recognizable despite blur. = 6

I know it might have been difficult to convince the viewer that it was a laptop in the foreground without the Dell logo on the bottom, but I really feel that the crop being so low seriously weakens the impact of this shot. 6 from me.

I don't like the fact that this photo is divided in half, I think a tighter crop would help alot, ligthing is good.
