 aLi, my daughter, had just had a fight with her boyfriend .. and she wanted to go to the shops with me NOW!!
i thought i only had four hours to submission deadline and had decided not to enter anything ... i changed my mind ...
so i asked aLi if i could take a few shots of her for the challenge ... she said ok ... the few i took looked pretty ordinary on the camera .. they were still unimpressive when downloaded .. put one or two in photoshop and was still unimpressed ... then realised that in my hurry i'd left the iso on 1600 so i wanted to take more photos, but didnt have time ...

did a suggestion of vignette in the raw program and desat .. converted from raw ... big crop, darkened hand coz it was much to light and contrasted very badly with her face, resized, tiny bit of kodak airbrush, selectively sharpened her eyes, hand and a bit of hair, did another vignette, then erased a bit of vignette so there was a suggestion of her hair on the top right hand side ... added a wide black border on the left hand side ... saved for web...

then i realised i had another day before this was due!!...
think i'll leave it in anyway .. might get a 5.1000, coz if i like it, which i do, then the voters wont!!!

I like this shot. Shows so much emotion of being outta of it :)
Ive had the Girlfriend blues, I know how it feels and this is exactly who one gets. :)

I'm sure glad the voters like this as much as you and I did. I think its beautiful! The lighting on her face is so soft. Unbelievable that this was taken with a 1600 ISO! You can see the touch of "anxious" in her eyes that your story tells, which is always so nice to have such strong expression in a photo. I hope her boyfriend and her made up. I'm assuming they did since I saw a later photo of him washing your car :) Yayyyy.

wow this should have placed so much higher, awesome black and white, I love the eyes and the dark background...

The sharpness in th eyes is superlative. The lighting is impeccable, i dunno how i missed this when i saw ur portfolio

Wow Roz I think this is my favorite of yours. Sharp where it should be and soft at the same time. Great capture, nice tones and excellent catchlights in her eyes.

Very nice job here. The only thing that bothers a bit is the stray hair coming in between the eyes. The lighting is fantastic. Good job.

I understand your going for the dark moody feel with this but I think adding more contrast would have highlighted her eyes more and more emphasis to the drama you were looking for.

Very nice. It may be a bit gray, and I don't like the up-nose aspect, but the atmosphere of the picture makes up for these minor issues.
