my mother has been through more than her fair share of difficult and challenging times, but she almost always presents an inspiring resiliency. i feel this moment, however, captures a certain wistful vulnerability.

editing: hue/saturation layer, warm filter, dodge and burn, smart sharpen, learn as i go

I was one of your 4 9's. I love close up portraits of the elderly. I love the authenticity of this shot. Wow, I can't believe more people didn't connect with this one. Your mom looks like she's thinking of days gone by, and there's some soft yearning in her eyes. And I love her for letting you take her portrait even though her lipstick has come off. 103 5's? Wow. This is going into my favorites. Tell Mom I say hello and thanks for introducing her to us.

crop is too tight for my liking ... wish we could see her whole head

I do not know why you took this picture and I figure the lady in it is asking herself the same thing. The bw-conversion is way too gray and the camera position really does not do the lady right, nor does the look on her face. I think you pictured this lady in an unflattering way, and that makes this not a good portrait in my view.

ok, voting 3 here, but will leave a reason why.. the lighting is flat, the BW conversion is very dull, no contrast or anything, and overall there is no WOW factor.. thats not a knock on the model as even if this was a mega pretty young model I still would of voted a 3,.. its just not a great photo.. keep trying though!

Portrait of an elder person looks better with less light.

Wish Judith had been looking at you when this was taken. It would give the viewer more connection with the photo

Flat lighting. On-camera flash, right?
