Thanks for the great comments. There were a lot of raves and rants. Most of the rants did not see the depth of the photo. Composition was not an issue when I made this photo as it was more for the theme. One person commented on the picture making him think and that was cool. It is a NEW relationship and a new dorm too. It's also a new camera and a new photon light (just celebrated my bday). Last but not least, its my first submission on the site.
I hope to give beautiful photos in the weeks to come. Thanks all!

ps. this was one of many other "new" photos with the same lighting effect. I also had black backgrounds. they were boring, I liked this one the most as it added a lot of depth to the photo -- rather than a plain overcomposed photo, this seemed shot out of the blue. |

Using the word "new" has some impact. I'm thinking that something else in this image must be new too. This is a photo that makes you think, and search. That's not a bad thing. I like stuff that makes me think...:-) thanks! I think this is a new relationship between the two people. Perhaps even a new dorm room. I'd like to hear about it...and will look to see after the challenge. One thing that is interesting here is the "ghost-like" view of the person in sandals. Slow exposure...Cool! My complaint? The cut off head. Ohhh another thing I DO like is the wood-tones of the furniture. |

fessing up in your title put me on your side right away. No one else came up with this creative of a way to incorporate new into their picture. I have to wonder if the girl in the background had any idea what was going on behind her. Normally a messy background like this would bother me, but for this shot it just seems to work! |

Well, at least the title fits. |

Don't say desparate, try hopeless... (just joking!) Use a Maglite? Good effect shot. I think it would have been a touch more successful if the nice lady could have kept still for the entire shot or been naked. So, you have four legs...How's that working out for you? (more joke) 7 Swash (not bad for a desparate situation!) |

I bet this took a few attempts. Great title for a picture with a lot of witâ€Â¦ 9 for being clever. |

The word "New" covers up part of a very essential part of the picture. |

Makes me miss the dorms.. This is actually pretty interesting.. it is something new to see. We see lights being played with in photos, but never words being written with them. The background is a bit distracting seeing as how theres so much going on.. 5 for effort. I would have given a higher vote if the background was something else.. i like the light effect! |

Something new. Composition - fair Technical Aspects - fair Meets Challenge - yes Visual Impact / Originality – fair/ very high Prediction --This will get scores from 1 to 9, 9 for unabashed bravery. I should score this a 2/3, but you get extra points for: 1.your wife/girlfriend consenting to participate 2. admitting to desperation 3. the courage to submit this. LOL Jim msp

What can I say? The New hit me right in the face. I bet you will get tons of comments on this. The humor is outstanding and something depicted to which we all can relate very well. The more I look at this the more entertained I am. Well, well done! Update: have been thinking and chuckling about this picture quite a bit. I actually like the mess that is being depicted here without an attempt having been made to close the coors and remove some of the stuff. It looks all very casual but I think this was well planned nonetheless :) I give you an 8 because an image that can entertain me that much, deserves at least that much. Journey |

Sorry abou your desperate submission. This is interesting to say the lease. i'm curious cause I saw a pic on a different site that was a still shot of people writing with sparklers, is that how you got the word "new" on there? |

.... I guess your photographic teqnique would be considered new... with a black bacgroud, and an analog clock, I think you would have won... |
