Great job JD. This was one of three I gave an 8 to on this challenge. As I said before - the lighting in amazing....even if it was only one take :)

Thank you everyone for the great comments! Although I had Jonah sit where I could use by Alien Bee 800 with a brolley box, it is still somewhat a candid because he never cooperates and I don't pose him. He sat there for a minute or so and did what he did, and I was lucky enough to get a wonderful shot with just one photo!
This is pretty much straight out of the camera, converted to grayscale using the channel mixer in Photoshop. The only other editing was a light pass with the dodge tool for the eye highlights. I never thought I'd see the day that a child photo would win a challenge here, let alone one of mine! Thank you all for your votes and comments!

| No he's not, is he? :) He reminds me of an Ewok from Star Wars but I have to be honest, his eyes are just a little spooky, almost like, "If you take one more picture of me, so help me I won't be responsible for my actions" type look, LOL! Amazing what the camera will catch. This is a loverly shot overall, the black and white works very well, the cropping is just a tad tight to me but overall a wonderful shot. A 9 |

| This is a beautiful photograph! The lighting is exceptional and the child\'s expression is beautiful. His eyes are my favorite part of the photo, they are so bright and clear, Absolutely one of the best portraits I have seen on this site. | I think this is my favorite shot in this challenge and not just cuz it is a cute kid, but the lighting, eyes and hand placement are spectacular. This child sure looks like a very thoughtful youngster, an old soul in a young body perhaps, at least in the way you have created a mood here. Very well done. |

| Wow . The monochrome,facial expression, lighting makes it look like a haunting,scary version of an Anne Geddes picture. Lighting it great. Shows the contrast in the furry outfit. Look at those eyes. |
