 at a family dinner at my girlfriends. remembered about the fences challenge so i went outside into the pouring rain with a giant flashlight and my new tripod and camera and just started putting it in bulb and light painting(it was my first time).

editing consisted of convert from raw to 16bit Tiff, levels, neat image,hue/sat

Very nice.....I think the tree and branch in the foreground gives it extra depth and keeps it from being too stark.

Nice first attempt! My husband and I (managed to coax him to come with) literally came back from running around the woods in the pitch dark 10 minutes ago after trying the same thing. I had scoped out a really nice spot during the day but unfortunately my flashlight was not bright enough so it kinda flopped. I will try again though as I have seen some amazing effects created by others.

Hey there, thanks for the comment! I was just checking out your picture last night, too! I really like yours - the way you've lit up the fence really makes it stand out and makes it seem... mysterious is not the right word, but something very much like mysterious.

Love the lighting overall - but maybe burning the tree branch in the foreground would cut the distraction down just a little bit ?

Overall an excellent photo though.

What I like:
The way your subject(s) stand out from the dark background. It gives the whole image a very moody feel to it.
The exposure is great, especially for your first light painting attempt.

What I would work on:
There are too many conflicting subjects in the photo. I see the fence as one, the tree as another, and the distant sky as a third. None of them seem to relate to one another nor enhance one another.
While visually pleasing, I don't get a sense of a story from the image. I'm wondering what you saw in this image that made you take it? If there wasn't a 'fence' theme, would you have taken this image anyway? Your title seems to allude to a story, but I don't see how this fence is 'forgotten'.

Not sure if I like the darkened edges. Makes it seem unnatural and this is a very natural shot.

This is a fabulous shot. The lighting is wonderful. The tree brings to mind one of the 'Scary Trees' from the Wizard of Oz.
