This photo just grabs me

You should have ditched the dude in the foreground. Otherwise, its a beautiful shot

I guess most people will not notice. However, I do, because you have the same problem I have: keeping the horizon level. It's made me a wizard with the Photoshop measure and rotate tools :-)

I like how this is not JUST a photo of a sun rise. There is the "welcoming of the day" aspect by placing the person in the photo. what are the little orange and green colored dots next to the person's left leg? some kind of sun reflection glitch? I like how the tree just kind of falls into the picture on the left, and the reflection onto the water of the sun is perfect. Excelent eye. Good luck in the challenge.

WOW! What an *awesome* shot! I love it. I recommend you get the book, "Sell and Resell Your Photos" (4th ed) by Rohn Engh. You will make some photoeditor very, very happy (as well as put cash in your pocket). You'll be paid to have fun! I give you a 10! I'm rooting for you to win!

Pretty

I don't like to see the name of the challenge (new) used in the title... too cliche or something. There are lots of other, more creative ways to express it. Like the picture lots though... I thought sunrises were a bit over done in this challenge, but yours stands out from the rest. If you got that effect without using filters on a Photoshop type program... GOOD for you... I', interested in knowing how you did it.

Nice idea. Did you try photographing this from a lower angle to fill the scene a bit more with the figure in silouette? Still, very emotive and done well.

Beautiful shot! Everything is wonderful except for that little green and orange spot near the bottom.
08/15/2002 04:42:00 AM
Love this oneâ€Â¦ I love the drama this creates. The over exposure of the sun creates a darker, sunrise feel that works well.
08/14/2002 08:35:00 PM
Good subject, I like the way the sun looks in the sky. Only little distraction is that lens flare. Otherwise good, very ethereal.
08/14/2002 05:59:00 PM
nicely done.

I think this shot captures newness much more than all the other new this or new that submissions I have seen. A new day is so much more than a new this or a new that. The darkness gives a daring pre-dawn feel few photographers would dare to capture.

Moody but bright, nice silhouettes
08/14/2002 03:02:00 AM
Straighten that horizon and you've got a great shot. :)
08/14/2002 02:26:00 AM
A slightly kitsch post but a beautiful picture overall. The runlight - the hills, the cloud. Wonderful picture - well done!
08/13/2002 03:49:00 PM
This photo is a horrible clichè, but it's a very well done. I espically like the diffused sun behind the fog, and the reflection of it in the water.
08/13/2002 03:37:00 PM
This is a great shot.. The reflection on the lens (i'm assuming thats what it is) is a bit distracting. I don't know if I would have taken the shot with the person or not... but the person's pose does work nicely enough. Good job, 7

excellent shot, I think you nailed this one !
08/13/2002 09:47:00 AM
Great use of colors and scenery.

Very nice shot. Focus looks good. Lighting is interesting. Seems just a bit crooked, but I won't count that against you. 7

The concept it´s really positive, like receiving the new day with optimism and happines, this is the message I got. The sun looks really nice, good shot!

a little stagey, but nice.

Beautiful. I would actually like to see this without the person as well.
08/12/2002 01:39:00 PM
Very nice!! I liked it a lot!
08/12/2002 01:10:00 PM
Cool! Because it's a little dark at the bottom of the frame, some of the silhouette isn't as clearly defined as I'd like. I wonder what it would have been like shot from a lower vantage point? I know the silhouette would then have been larger within the whole frame, which might be what you were trying to avoid. It does feel like a celebration of dawn.

Nice picture, but still a little dark.
08/12/2002 12:51:00 PM
nice idea, a little too dark though. 5 md
08/12/2002 11:10:00 AM
beautiful, nicely framed, and good lighting i think. The only distracting thing is the light reflections bottom center, but that is minor. Would make a beautiful print, i think, with or without the person. karmat

cool! shame a bout the flare on the bottom.

Looks like a glorious new day. Really a great shot.
