Re shoot of an earlier starfish photo. Wanted to improve on it by 1) using a more natural starfish instead of the one dyed red 2) have 'clean' sand 3) remove dark vignetted corners that were in the original shot from last year. Also wanted to shoot an image for the 'harse environment' by showing a starfish out of its natural environment exposed to the wind and sun.

it doesn't look so harsh there, infact I would love to be sitting there on the beach, but I'm sure that the star fish doesn't
I like the comp and light

Very nice, I might like it a bit more if the star fish was not so centered. 8

Unfortunately this has been done before here.

This is a keeper! Wonderful light and detail. 10 and hoping you get a ribbon!

that doesn't look too harsh at all! i'll take it.

Not a bad shot, but this is definitely not my idea of harsh.

Lovely! Absolutely lovely!

John White, this your shot? Looks identical to your username entry and frankly it really detracts from the viewing experience of this photo, if it is indeed yours at least you could have put a little bit of a twist to it or something, like taking it at night or in the opposite direction of this beach or from a lower vantage point. Sorry but EXACT repetition doesn´t sit well with me.

Still a nice shot so I didn´t vote it down too much I hope :)

A lovely seaside shot - classic. Looks quite inviting rather than harsh, though.

Beautiful picture - but does not look at all harsh

LOL... Don't look to harsh to me unless you're a penguin or something! ;-)

This composition idea has been used so many times that you've penalised yourself.

See here for example

i like this shot a lot , very rlaxing actually. i can see ho wit could be a harsh environment , nevertheless, most people go to place like this for vacations accordingly i think it's a DNMC BUT again i like the composition, colors, focus... 6

Nice image. To bad I don't see it as harsh.

Nice shot.
Very simple, could have just stuck the starfish to the right a little to balance the shore line leading to the left.

much too beautiful to be harsh

LOVE this shot but I don't think it's a harsh environment....soothing & relaxing <8>

Honestly, the photo looks like a snapshot and not harsh to me. It looks like a nice deserted beach where I'd like to be - the water looks very nice. It's a nice photo but did you use any expert editing? I don't think so, maybe I'm wrong. I rarely vote in challenges I've entered and I'm not breaking the rule for this challenge. If I were voting I'd start your photo out at a 4 because imho, it's not harsh. But, I'd bump it up to a 6 just because it's a nice photo.

Nice photo,....But Harsh....???
12/28/2006 08:50:03 PM
doesn't look very harsh (well...maybe for the starfish) it actually looks quite dreamy. I like it though.
12/28/2006 08:48:45 PM
love the colours and the composition...I want to be at our holiday in Fiji!!!
12/28/2006 07:58:28 PM
Not exactly 'harsh', but I know what you're getting at. :) 7
12/28/2006 07:11:13 PM
beautiful picture. appears more peaceful than harsh... but then again the waves turned rocks into sand so it can't be that peaceful, right?

Outstanding photo. I am sure this would make you plenty of money through a stock agency. Love it.
