I have a hard time saying anything about this shot as I find it neither good or bad, just something about the lighting and DOF that just doesn´t appeal to me. Some burning on the hand and an visible but still out of focus head/face would have scored higher with me and it also bothers me a bit that the tip of the gun is so prominent in the composition and yet out of focus. 5 from me. |

Scary, scary use of shallow DOF...right in line with the theme of the photo. Great b&w contrast as well. Great job! |

As a mental Health worker, I know how harsh this environment can be. Nice shot. |

I like how you framed this with the lighter in the top left....also your dof |

Great shot. Love the black and white tones, they're really perfect.
The only distracting element is the light mark at the end of the barrel. |

Extremely disturbing...a sure sign of an effective image. |

Nice DOF, nice toning. I'm a wee bit tired of guns, but that's a personal opinion. |

I usually don't like these kind of shots but this one is very nicely executed (no pun intended!) Don't like your border but that's a sniglet.

I like this unusual variation on the theme - the space inside one's mind. That said, I doubt the image would, on it's own, bring the challenge theme to mind so you may find some voters vote you down for that. I really like the shallow depth of field which so effectively blurs foreground and background leaving only the knuckles and part of the gun in sharp focus. The close crop and angle of view both work well. So too does the nicely converted black and white presentation. |

I've never really thought of my mind as an environment...maybe I should rethink my thunking? Oh, the photo...it has a very nice quality. |

Strong imagery :: nice B&W technique :: nice use of shallow DOF :: title works perfectly for the challenge
Missing the wow factor, though... << 7 >> |
