JuliBocsaid it perfectly, and I agree. The feathers make this and it's a beautiful photo. DPC ratings are rarely as high as I feel they should be for photos like these.

This got an 8 from me. I know how hard it is to capture a really good shot of the white egrets. They hold nicely still, but the detail is hard to get in the bright light. Here the highlights are blown a little on the back and head. I wonder if Highlights/Shadows together with Exposure might restore a little of the detail in those areas. Also I wish I could see the rest of the plumage in the back. The crop looks a little tight there. I'm guessing there may have been some visual obstruction that you had to crop out.

While RUEDISCHMUTZ's "golden rule" is good, I don't think it applies here, because to me the blowing plumage is an interesting element, and a very tight crop would make a very ordinary shot. This was a good entry, and was well appreciated by the voters.

Hey Catherine. This shot was very nicely done. That new lens of yours is working well because the detail is fantastic. I gave this a 7,

Good composition, although maybe a tad tight on the left. Only problem is the blown highlights on the back and head of the egret.

Nice and sharp. But golden rule in animal phoso is: If the animal doesn't do anything spectacular, make a very close-up. only a 5

great capture but a little too close of cropping, IMHO
